Abstract

In urban planning, attention to social issues is an integral part of urban plans, because human beings in the interaction with urban spaces as an environment that responds to their needs and activities give them meaning. And define a part of their identity in relation to these places and become attached to them, in which case the concept of social stability in urban spaces is manifested. Social sustainability is a process of creating sustainable and successful places, in fact, means improving the quality of life and developing human resources, and ultimately empowering local communities and managing the preservation of values. Therefore, the main purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of the role of social stability in the spatial attachment of residents of the historical context of Urmia. In order to collect data, library studies and documents and questionnaire and interview tools have been used. To analyze the data in accordance with the research objectives, one-sample t-test and multiple regression in the form of SPSS software were used. The results of one-sample t-test show that the historical context of Urmia has indicators of social stability (identity, participation, safety, security and quality of life) and spatial attachment index and the only index of social capital in this area is not in a good condition. Also, the results of multiple regression test indicate that the indicators of participation, quality of life and security have a significant and direct effect on the spatial attachment of the historical context of Urmia.
