In today's busy and fast-paced world, urban green spaces are considered as tranquil and vital sanctuaries for residents. However, accessing these sanctuaries entails a narrative more complex than just their existence within the cityscape. The current discourse aims to unravel the role of spatial design in the legibility and accessibility of urban parks by examining and analyzing four highly visited parks in the metropolis of Urmia. This study employs a quantitative-spatial methodology utilizing library resources and satellite imagery for data collection. Spatial configuration indices (connectivity, choice, integration) are utilized to evaluate access to the four highly visited parks (Egg Park, Forest Park, Gollar Baghi Park, and Aller Baghi Park) in Urmia. Autocad software is used for data preparation and processing, while Depthmap x software is employed for data analysis. The results indicate that access to urban parks in Urmia is not uniformly distributed. Egg and Coastal Parks, due to their central and strategic location, diverse surrounding land uses, and strong communication networks, enjoy higher legibility and accessibility. Conversely, Forest Park, owing to its remote location, lack of adequate transportation infrastructure, and being surrounded by residential uses, experiences lower legibility and accessibility. Spatial design, as a key element in urban legibility, plays a defining role in the equitable distribution and easy access to green spaces. Urban planners and policymakers, considering this component, can take steps towards enhancing the quality and equity of park access for all citizens.
